Welcome to European Solidarity Corps

About us

The Foundation of Social Integration Prom was established in 2004. It assembles people from various professions: teachers, trainers, psychologists, ethnologists, historians, and sociologists. The team of our permanent co-operators consists of several dozen active social activists. This professional variety reflects the character of our interests and activities, including education and research on civil society and culture.

Our common aim is the integration of individuals and groups at risk of marginalization and social exclusion. We are united by our passion for our work and our belief that we can shape reality.

We focus on children, dysfunctional families, the Roma minority, and individuals with mental health issues. We help students and graduates, including those from abroad.

The primary form of the Foundation’s activities is the operation of community center for children. Both of our establishments have an integrative character. Five days a week, Polish and Roma children can find additional help with their school subjects and participate in engaging workshops. We offer our wards the opportunity to develop their passions and cultural traditions.

Since 2009, we have been part of the European Solidarity Corps, and since 2011, we have held accreditation for hosting, coordinating, and sending organizations. So far, we’ve hosted over 200 volunteers from abroad and sent 11 volunteers from Poland.

For years, we have organized multifaceted studies for institutions and organizations working with the Roma in the countries of the Visegrad Group. The knowledge and interesting ideas we acquire are integrated into our daily work.

Since 2004, we have participated in food distribution for the poorest citizens in partnership with the Food Bank Federation.

We cooperate with many researchers from universities, and together we create and publish books and publications on Roma issues, including books and comics for both children and adults. To promote interesting initiatives in the region, we created an online information service documenting activities within the governmental program on Roma in Lower Silesia.

We help create civil society by running very popular stations for free legal advice for Wrocław citizens.

From 2013 to 2015, we organized two editions of the social campaign „Some of the Many.” Its main objective was to improve the image of the Roma in the three provinces, increase knowledge about this ethnic minority, and reduce stereotypes. Click here to learn more.

Through several annual projects, we cooperate with local government units, state administration, other NGOs, and also with universities and cultural institutions.

In recognition of the Foundation’s services for the integration of the Roma, we received the European Citizen’s Prize in 2015. The awards ceremony was held in the European Parliament in October 2015.

Projects

If you want to be a volunteer with Prom and come to Wrocław, Poland, from another European Union or Partner country, there are five project options you can choose from according to your interests. Do you prefer to work with children, in an artistic environment, or in administration and communication tasks? See what we have to offer!

If you are a Polish resident who wants to be a volunteer abroad,  take a look into Join us section.

Each year we have open calls for projects starting in March/April and September/October, lasting between 9 and 12 months. Recruitment starts 5 months earlier. Open calls can be found in our Facebook page.

All volunteers, in addition to their work in the chosen organization, will take part in visibility and dissemination activities to promote the European Solidarity Corps and Fundacja Prom in the city. These activities may include visits to educational institutions and other organizations, participating in local events, and assisting in the creation of books and publications, among others.

KINDERGARTENS

There is many kindergartens in Wroclaw that are co-operating with us. Majority of our volunteers work in different kindergartens.  You can find the hosting organizations here.

In the end, the most important part is that you are flexible, trustworthy, positive and creative.

Volunteer’s tasks:

  • Present their culture and country through workshops and interactive activities – organizations appreciate volunteers’ own ideas.
  • Organize activities based on their hobbies, such as language lessons, dance classes, art workshops and outdoor events.
  • Participate in additional activities with the hosting organization like trips, theater visits, concerts, and community events.
  • Support teachers on daily care and teaching of the children.
  • Assist teachers with organizing activities and preparing materials.

Books:

With support of other institutions and organizations, we and our volunteers have published four books. They consist info about volunteering to volunteers themselves as well as to hosting organizations.

As a result of our project „Happy Kids, Better Europe 4”, with the support of ERASMUS +, we created a guide book, „Volunteer with us”. We believe it will enhance the efforts of organizations in fostering a more inclusive and accepting society. It’s available for download for free both in English and Polish.

One of our special activities is games with blue parachute. The parachute has the map of Europe on it. We have different games to play with it, that teach children about Europe and the countries of it. We have collected them on the book „Play with us”.

Play with us (Parachute)

Our volunteers also wrote a book in which they gathered games from their own countries for children to play.

„Play with Us” books are useful for new volunteers because there are so many activities for children of different ages to choose from.

How To Become a Volunteer?

What is European Solidarity Corps – ESC?

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Union initiative aimed at promoting solidarity and engagement among young people ages 18-30 all across Europe. Launched in 2018, it provides opportunities for youth to participate in volunteer projects that address various fields, such as culture, social inclusion and environmental sustainability.

The ESC project stands for a voluntary, free, deliberate work for others in an international project, which is from 2 to 12 months long. You don’t need to have any qualifications or experience, you don’t need to have a certain level of language proficiency. The most important for us is a strong motivation, age and nationality.

If you want to become a volunteer, you need to find a sending and hosting organizations. You can search them here.

You can take part in ESC project only once. Exceptions can be short-term projects after which it is possible to participate in long-term projects.

What else do I need to know?

The implementation of ESC is possible in EU countries, partner countries that are neighbouring the EU and non-EU programme countries (Iceland, North Macedonia, Türkiye, Liechtenstein). Look for your country here. The only important thing is that one of the two countries (hosting or sending) has to be a member of the European Union.

Anyone who would like to have an amazing time, gain experience and meet lots of interesting people can participate in a volunteering project.

Project lasts from 2 to 12 months (usually 6 to 12). You need to take training before your departure, arrival and evaluation.

The expenses are not high – as the European Union covers almost all of them! There is no need to worry about the cost of housing, insurance, food or travel (you may be asked to cover up to 10% of travel costs). In addition, you have pocket money for small expenses and language training in your hosting country. The exact amount of food and pocket money depends on the country and project.

If you have any questions feel free to email us: evs@fundacjaprom.pl

How to become a volunteer step by step:

1. A.

If you are from abroad and you want to volunteer with us in Wroclaw:

1- Read the open calls available on our website or Facebook , and complete your application following the instructions written at the end of the info-pack. You will need to send us your CV with a picture, a motivation letter and a filled questionnaire. If there is not an open call, you can still send us these documents and we will consider your application for the future!

2- After the deadline for applications, we will pre-select candidates for an online interview. This process usually takes 2-3 weeks. During that time, please check your email!

3- If you are pre-selected, we will ask for your confirmation for the date of the interview, and you will receive more information on how to get ready for that day. In general, you will be asked to prepare a task related to the job you would be doing.

4- If your interview is successful, we will contact you. If you accept to be part of the project, congratulations! You will be volunteering with us!

5- Once selected, you will have to find a sending organisation from your country, which will help you prepare for your experience.

1. B.

If you are from Poland and you want to volunteer abroad:

1- Search in the European solidarity Corps database for a project that interests you.

2- Send your application to the organisation, and complete the recruitment process established by them. This usually includes an online interview.

3- Once you got selected to take part in a project and you accept it, you can contact us. We want you to introduce yourself and the project you will be joining. We can be your sending organisation!

2.

Once you are selected to be a volunteer:

With the guidance of your sending organisation, you will have to:

  • Get your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
  • Accept our request on the European Youth Portal, through that you will get Henner insurance.
  • Arrange your visa, if necessary.
  • Ask for your National Criminal Record certificate.
  • Buy your transport ticket to the new country, which will be reimbursed at your arrival.
  • Take part in pre-departure training in your country. This will include information about the new place, the role, rights and duties of the volunteer, rules of the placement, a discussion on your expectations and fears and how to deal with cultural shock and challenging situations abroad.
  • Sign your Volunteering Agreement.

3.

Welcome to the new country!

Congratulations! You reached your destination and will now start your project properly. The coordinating organisation will guide you once you arrive. After your arrival, you will take part in an On-Arrival Training, organized by the National Agency of the country you are in. Depending on the duration of your experience, you may participate in a Mid-Term Training too.

4.

After volunteering:

After your ESC project, with the help of your coordinating organisation, you will build a Youthpass. This is a certificate in which you can show all the new skills you gained in your period abroad. You can use the Youthpass for example for job search and school applications.

Also, your coordinating and sending organisations can offer you guidance in the following steps you decide to take. This can be assistance in writing a CV, cover letter, providing recommendation letters for your future employer etc.

Benefits of being a volunteer:

  • You will get valuable work-experience.
  • You will find new contacts and friends.

Even if there are not any current proposals from us – feel free to send us your details. We will include them in our database and will be in contact with you shortly.
