Welcome to European Voluntary Service

About us

The Foundation of Social Integration Prom was established in 2004. It assembles people of various professions: teachers, trainers, psychologists, ethnologists, historians and sociologists. The team of our permanent co-operators consists of several dozens of active social activists. This professional variety very well reflects the character of our interests and activities including education, research on civil society and culture.

Our common aim is integration of persons and groups of people at risk of marginalization and social exclusion. We are united with passion of our work and belief we can shape the reality.

We work on children and dysfunctional families, Roma minority and people with mental problems. We help students and graduates, also from abroad.

The basic form of the Foundation activities is running of community centres for children. Both our establishments are of integration character. Five days a week Polish and Roma children can find additional help with their school subjects and take part in interesting workshops. We offer our wards possibility of developing their passions and cultural traditions. The effect is an integration band, Terni Romani Bacht, where children learn not only dance and song but also tolerance.

The idea of European integration is also close to us. Since 2009 we take part in „European Voluntary Service” under Youth in Action and now Erasmus+ Programme hosting volunteers from all of Europe. Since 2011 We have the acreditation for hosting, coordinating and sending organisation. In 2014 our acreditation was succesfully extended. We cooperate with two experienced coordinators and well-prepared mentor.

For seven years we organize many-sided studies for institutions and organizations working on Roma in the countries of Visegrad Group. The acquired knowledge and interesting ideas we introduce in our daily work.

From 2004 We take part in food distribution for the poorest citizens in partnership with the Food Bank Federation.

We cooperate with many researchers from universities and together we create and publish books and publications on Roma issues: books and comics for children and grown-ups alike. To promote interesting initiatives in the region, we created internet information service documenting activities within the governmental program on Roma in Lower Silesia.

We help creating civil society running very popular stations of free legal advice for Wrocław citizens.

In 2013-2015 We organized two editions of „Some of the many” social campaign. Its main objective was to improve the image of Roma in the three provinces, increasing knowledge about this ethnic minority and reducing stereotypes. To know more visit: www.jednizwielu.pl

Within several annual projects we cooperate with Local Government units, State Administration and other NGOs and also with universities and cultural institutions.

In recognition of Foundation’s services for the integration of the Roma, in 2015 we received the European Citizen’s Prize. Awards ceremony was held in the European Parliament in October 2015.

Projects

-If you want to be a volunteer with Prom and come to Wrocław, Poland from another European Union’s or Partner’s country, there are three options of projects that you can choose according to your interests. Do you prefer to work with children, in an artistic environment or doing administration and communication tasks? See what we have to offer!

-If you are a Polish resident who wants to be a volunteer abroad,  take a look into the section Join us

Each year we have open calls for projects starting in March/April and September/October, lasting between 9 and 12 months. Recruitment starts 5 months earlier. Open calls can be found here

All the volunteers, besides their work in the chosen organisation, will take part in visibility and dissemination activities to promote the European Solidarity Corps and Fundacja Prom in the city. These can be visits to educational institutions and other organisations, taking part in local events, assisting in the creation of books and publications, among others.

KINDERGARTENS AND SCHOOLS

We work in partnership with more than 14 educational institutions in Wroclaw. The cooperation started as a small project in 2015, with only one kindergarten involved, and the positive experience we all had made it grow.

Thanks to this project, children and teachers can be in contact with people from other cultures, and all participants can improve their intercultural communication skills.

Host institutions learn new methods of non-formal education and gain a more direct approach to children. Volunteers have the chance to see the daily dynamics of a school and have a better understanding of a teacher’s job. They learn about the needs and development stage of the children according to their age.

Volunteers profile

If you like kids, are patient and not afraid of big groups of small children running around and laughing – this is your place, join us! You don’t need to have a special qualification to work with kids, but some experience in the area, such as babysitting or scouting would be appreciated. Clean criminal record certificate is required.

Volunteers will:

-Present their culture and country to the kids and staff through workshops, animations and other activities proposed by the participants.

-Organize their own activities according to their hobbies. They can be for example language, dance lessons, artistic workshops or planning open-air activities, all the activities are welcome.

– Take part in all additional activities with the host institutions such as trips, theatre, zoo and cinema visits, concerts, picnics and integration events.

-Offer support for daily-care and teaching according to the daily needs.

BRAVE

KIDS

PROJECT

Stowarzyszenie Kultury Teatralnej Pieśń Kozla (Song of the Goat Theatre) is an organization founded in 1996 and after years of operation has achieved a status of being the most innovative European groups which is continuously seeking new artistic expressions. From 2005, the organization has been running various projects. Stowarzyszenie Teatr Pieśni Kozła is the hosting organization and Prom Foundation is the project coordinator.

BRAVE FESTIVAL

Brave Festival is one of the biggest festivals in Lower Silesia. Its character is unique not only in domestic but also on a global scale. This festival tells all the incredible stories of brave people who are not ashamed of where they come from. Participants of the project introduce their culture and traditions to wide audience. The festival includes various performances of artists and authentically captures the cultural and spiritual heritage of minorities and nations.

BRAVE KIDS

Brave Kids is an educational project organized in order to unite children from different parts of the world. Aim of this project is to help and inspire children to express themselves better and to prepare them for the future. Education is realized through various artistic workshops which are the main communicative media for introducing feelings and cultures.

During the first 2 weeks of the project, children and their tutors are hosted by host families who take care of them and organize their free time. This part is also the most important of the project because it gives all the included a great opportunity for intercultural exchange and discovery.

As the project continues, 4 groups have meetings in different cities during 1 month in order to exchange ideas, cultural differences and performances. The main method which is used is the principle of “the children teaching other children”. We believe that this fusion creates a platform for everybody to speak up and discuss. Given that the children come from countries dealing with various social and political situations or natural disasters, the festival is a place where they can all share with others and achieve positive changes.

Main task for our volunteers will be to contact artistic groups of children, assist the instructors of the programme and apply their creativity when it comes to organizing workshops for host families, children and local volunteers. Their responsibilities will also include writing descriptive and promotional materials and monitoring the organizational progress of international groups in the months preceding the project.

This project usually start in February and finish in the end of October (9 months long).

CHILDREN AND YOUTH CENTERS

As a member of our organization, you will have the task of participation and help in the activities with children, youth and people with mental problems. There are 2 afterschool clubs for the children and youth (Zakątek Krasnoludka – Dwarfs’ Corner and Promyki – Rays) and You Are Not Alone Club for the people with mental disorders. If you have any hobbies which you would like to share with others and want to create workshops this is a great opportunity to do so and join us. Possibilities for our volunteers are unlimited, from art workshops, language lessons, gymnastics, dance lessons to performing and organizing theatrical plays, musicals and field trips.

Volunteering duties also include work in the office and helping by organization of meetings and conferences, searching for new partners and assisting employees providing administrative support. Our volunteers participate in food distribution to the poorest families from our beneficiaries and take part in educational projects and trainings organized by our institution.

Organization PROM helps volunteers to discover their abilities, step out of their comfort zone and exchange ideas with other members within the organization as well as with our partner organizations. The main goal is to create a fresh, dynamic and professional work environment.

We are very excited to include people from disadvantaged social conditions and provide an equal chance for them to fit into the society. The projects are pursued through volunteers from different countries. They all share the same roof and learn how to cooperate with the institution and each other.

We welcome aboard people who are active and creative. If you are interested in psychology, social work and pedagogy, recent problems of the Roma community and are eager to help, this is your possibility to join us. We are looking for people who are interested in working with youth, children, minorities, are friendly and responsible. If you are looking for a change and an unforgettable experience, we are happy to welcome you in our team.

This project usually start in September and finish in the end of June (10 months long).

How To Become a Volunteer?

What is European Voluntary Service – EVS?

European Voluntary Service (EVS) is an opportunity to participate in an international project for young people (17 – 30 years old) regardless of gender, race, nationality, religion, political beliefs or health status. This is your chance to join us!

The EVS project stands for a voluntary, free, deliberate work for others in an international project, which is from 2 to 12 months long. You don’t need to have any qualifications or experience, you don’t need to have a certain level of language proficiency. The most important for us is a strong motivation, age and nationality.

If you want to become a volunteer, contact sending organization and then check the corresponding hosting organization to your EVS project in the online database (http://ec.europa.eu/youth/programme/mobility/european-voluntary-service_en.htm).

You can take part in EVS project only once. Exceptions can be short-term projects after which it is possible to participate in long-term projects.

Where, who, how long?

The implementation of EVS is possible in the “Programme Countries” (all members of the EU, Turkey, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and in the neighbouring countries (Albania, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine), or “other Partner Countries in the world” (e.g. Latin America, the Carribean, Asia, Oceania).

The only important thing is that one of the two countries (hosting or sending) has to be a member of the European Union.

Who can participate? Anyone between the ages of 17 to 30 years old who would like to have an amazing time, gain experience and meet lots of interesting people.

Project lasts from 2 to 12 months (usually 6 to 12). You need to take the training before your departure, arrival and evaluation.

The expenses are not high – as the European Union covers almost all of them! There is no need to worry about the cost of housing, insurance, travel (you may be asked to cover up to 10% of travel costs), the food! In addition, you have pocket money for small expenses and language training in your hosting country.

How to become a volunteer step by step:

1. A.

If you are from abroad and you want to volunteer with us in Wroclaw:

1- Read the open calls available on our website, and complete your application following the instructions written at the end of the file. You will need to send us your CV with a picture, a motivation letter and a filled questionnaire.

-If there is not an open call, you can still send us these documents and we will consider your application for the future.

2- After the deadline for applications, we will pre-select candidates for an online interview. This process usually takes 2-3 weeks. During that time, please check your email!

3- If you are pre-selected, we will ask for your confirmation for the date of the interview, and you will receive more information on how to get ready for that day. In general, you will be asked to prepare a task related to the job you would be doing.

4- If your interview is successful, we will contact you. If you accept to be part of the project, congratulations! You will be volunteering with us!

5- Once selected, you will have to find a sending organisation from your country, which will help you prepare for your experience.

1. B.

If you are from Poland and you want to volunteer abroad:

1-Search in the European solidarity Corps database for a project that interests you.

2-Send your application to the organisation, and complete the recruitment process established by them. This usually includes an online interview.

3-Once you got selected to take part in a project and you accept it, you can contact us. We can be your sending organisation!

2.

Once you are selected to be a volunteer:

With the guidance of your sending organisation, you will have to:

-Get your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and enrol in the CIGNA insurance.

-Arrange your visa, if necessary.

-Ask for your National Criminal Record certificate.

-Buy your transport ticket to the new country, which will be reimbursed at your arrival.

-Take part in pre-departure training in your country. This will include information about the new place, the role, rights and duties of the volunteer, rules of the placement, a discussion on your expectations and fears and how to deal with cultural shock and challenging situations abroad. Then, you will sign your Volunteering Agreement.

3.

Welcome to the new country!

Congratulations! You made your decision and you are doing your ESC project. The coordinating organisation will guide you once you arrive. After your arrival, you will take part in an On-Arrival Training, organised by the National Agency of the country you are in. Depending on the duration of your experience, you may participate in a Middle-Term Training too.

4.

After volunteering

After your ESC project, with the help of your coordinating organisation, you will build a Youthpass. This is a certificate in which you can show all the new skills you gained in your period abroad.

Also, your coordinating and sending organisations can offer you guidance in the following steps you decide to take. This can be assistance in writing a CV, cover letter, providing recommendation letters for your future employers.

Benefits of being a volunteer:

  • Personal development: better understanding of yourself and others
  • Challenge
  • New contacts and friendships
  • Helping people in need
  • New knowledge: Science/improvement of foreign language
  • New ideas and interests
  • Communication skills
  • Practical skills
  • Experience

What is a volunteer provided with?

  • Training: initial training (before departure), introductory training (soon after arriving in the hosting country), evaluation meeting halfway through the project, evaluation meeting after the completion of the project
  • Courses and trainings before and during the project (courses, practical courses, lectures, workshops…)
  • All the expenses covered: insurance, travel expenses, food and accommodation, pocket money (different exchange rates depending on the country of residence)
  • Other: assistance and support from a caregiver  – a mentor
  • Certificate from the European Commission – Youhpass – confirming participation in program European Voluntary Service EVS
  • 2 days off for each month of volunteering work

If you are thinking about joining our organization – please refer to the projects. There are 3 options to choose from: volunteering in day care for children, the young people from Roma community and the club for people with mental health problems; you can also work in one of Wroclaw’s preschools or the organization of the Brave Kids festival (in these 2 cases, organization Prom is a coordinating organization).

Below you will find all the standard forms which together with CV and LM should be sent to our address: evs@fundacjaprom.pl

Even if there are not any current proposals from us – feel free to send us your details. We will include them in our database and will be in contact with you shortly.
